The hang up

My father was on the other line. He wanted to talk to me about arranging Lynn's travels to Italy. As with all dreams about him, there is no pretense of reality. I know I'm in a surreal world, and he's not actually there. We talk logistics. Flights, money, accommodations. The conversation was short. I felt a compelling need to tell him I loved him. But before I could say the words, he had hung up.
